Since her childhood, Anne Podbielski has been inhabited by an early fascination for stones. When, in 1999, she settled in London and gave up the Stock Exchange to launch out in an artistic career, it is naturally this material she initially chose to create.
She then produced sculptures, out of marble, alabaster, onyx of various origins, with a simple and purified esthetics, built starting from geometrical figures, betraying the passion of the artist for the prehistoric objects, cycladic works, Amerindian or Buddhist. Just like their models, of religious origin, her work seeks to move the spectator, to guide him into an introspection, to cause to him a reaction of a quasi mystical nature.
The addition of colors, of the acrylic resin on the drafts of its carved works gradually led the artist to extend her practice to painting, initially with average formats, painted with oil, then with large sizes, carried out on paperboards or cut out off sails of ships.
In all cases, one can find here the same type of characters of primitive inspiration, composed of geometrical forms, whom conserve the same monumentality and the same presence as their predecesors, in three dimensions. Moreover, the sculpture remains besides in the center of the artist’s approach, inspiring her paintings and nourishing in return its pictorial research.

The artist also took part in the Paris “Salon d’Automne”, from November 12th to November 25, 2004.
A sculpture of the artist "The disciple" will be put for auction on December 16, 2004 by the company of voluntary sales Claude Aguttes with the auction room of the Neuilly-on-Seine, at the occasion of a sale devoted to contemporary art.
Active on the European artistic scene, it is now time for Anne Podbielski to conquer the American public.
